Straw bales, a by-product of the agricultural industry, can be stacked like bricks around or within a stick or timber frame to provide insulation for a building. The bales are tied tightly together and into place within the frame to create a firm and plumb enclosure. Because these bales are organic in origin, they have special needs to keep dry, sturdy, and functional. They need to be coated with a “breathable” render which will protect, preserve, and help the straw bale wall over time.
